Zabul governor escapes suicide attack in southern Afghanistan

According to reports, a heavy explosion rocked southern Zabul province of Afghanistan on Saturday after a suicide bomber detonated his explosives in central city of Qalat.

Eyewitnesses in the area are saying that a suicide bomber targeted a team of the provincial reconstruction team (PRT) in this province

In the meantime provincial police chief Gen. Ghulam Sakhi Rooghlawanay said the suicide bomber was looking to target the convoy of provincial governor Mohammad Ashraf Nasery’s vehicle.

Mr. Rooghlawanay further added that the provincial governor escaped the attack unhurt but a doctor was killed and three bodygurads of Mr. Nasery were injured following the blast.

No group including the Taliban militants has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.

5 Afghan soldiers killed following blast in Laghman

According to local authorities in eastern Laghman province of Afghanistan, at least 5 Afghan National Army soldiers were killed following an improvised explosive device blast in this province.

Provincial governor spokesman Sarhadi Zwak confirming the report said the incident took place after an Afghan national army vehicle struck with a roadside bomb at Todi-Cheni district.

Taliban militants group claimed responsibility behind the incident.

In the meantime Afghan defense ministry following a statement on Thursday announced at least 14 militants were killed following military operations by Afghan national army.

The source further added Afghan national army soldiers are also detained four militants and defused at least 16 improvised explosive device during the operations.

The operations were conducted in Mizan and Qalat city of eastern Zabul province of Afghanistan.

Anti-government armed militant groups yet to comment regarding the reports.

Coordinated blasts rock southern Zabul province

A explosion rocked southern Zabul province of Afghanistan on Saturday morning.

The incident took place in central city of Qalat at southern Zabul province and there are fears of heavy casualties following the blast.

Provincial security chief Ghulamn Jilani confirming the report said coordinated blasts took place near the Zabul municipality department.

Mr. Jilani further added the incident took place while a vehicle of a priviate security company was crossing the area injuring at least three security guards.

He said the explosive device was planted inside a garbage container.

In the meantime provincial governor spokesman Mohammad Sharif Nasiri said the second explosion took place 15 minutes after the first blast killing at least two people.

No group including the Taliban militants has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.

Five private guards killed in Zabul blast

QALAT (PAN): Five guards of a private security company were killed on Monday when their vehicle struck a roadside bomb in the Shahr-i-Safa district of southern Zabul province, an official said.

The bombing occurred in the afternoon, said Khadi Khan, the town’s administrative head. The guards were escorting a convoy of vehicles carrying supplies for NATO-led troops.

Security forces launched a search operation in the area, but so far no arrest could be made in connection with the attack, Khan added.

Eyewitness Abdul Muqeem said it was a powerful explosion that destroyed the vehicle of the security guards. The blast was followed by gunshots at the scene, he added.
