9 killed as bomb hits bus in NW Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, April 13 (Xinhua) -- At least nine people were killed and nine others injured when a bomb targeted a passenger bus in Pakistan's northwest city of Peshawar on Saturday afternoon, local police said.

Shafi Ullah, Senior Superintendent of Police Rural Peshawar, said that the bomb planted on the bus went off when the bus passed by a market in Mattani area on the outskirts of Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

He said that the bus was on its way to the neighboring Kohat district from Peshawar, and most of the
passengers were members of local pro-government militia.

Bomb disposal experts estimated three to five kg explosives were used in the blast.

The injured people including women and kids were rushed to nearby hospital where several of them were said to be in critical condition.

Several vehicles and shops were also damaged in the blast.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

In Several Joint Clearance Operations, Two Armed Taliban Killed (Apr.13.2013.)

Counterterrorism:
In past 24 hours, Afghan National Police conducted several joint clearance operations with the cooperation of Afghan National Army, NDS and Coalition Forces to clean some of the areas from terrorists and enemies of peace and stability of Afghanistan.

The operations were conducted in Kunar, Nangarhar, Baghlan, Kandahar, Ghazni and Khost provinces, as a result two armed Taliban were killed, four wounded and one was arrested by Afghan National Security Forces.                                                                                     
 
Also, during these operations, Afghan National Police discovered and confiscated some amount of light and heavy round ammunitions and IEDs.
 
During the same 24 hour period, Afghan National Police discovered and defused an anti-vehicle mine placed by enemies of Afghanistan for destructive activity in the Marjah district of Helmand province.

Counter Crimes:
The 101 Kabul Zone National Police detained two suspects accused of theft and drug trafficking in the 3rd and 8th Districts of Kabul-City.

Rocket attack damages chopper at Jalalabad airport

JALALABAD (PAN): A civilian helicopter was damaged after militants fired three rockets into Jalalabad airport in the eastern province of Nangarhar on early Saturday, an official and ISAF said.

The attack took place around 5am when three rockets landed inside the airfield that houses International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) troops, an Afghan guard at the facility said on condition of anonymity.

A nearby resident, Tariq, said a huge plume of smoke rose into the air for one hour in the airport after it was hit with rockets.

ISAF media office in Kabul confirmed the incident, saying an ISAF airbase had received a few rounds of unidentified indirect fire.

“According to initial reports, a civilian helicopter was damaged. No ISAF aircraft were reported damaged,” the statement added.

Airport attacked in eastern Afghanistan, helicopter damaged

According to reports, militants fired at least three missiles on Jalalabad airport in eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan early Saturday morning.

All the three missiles landed inside the Jalalabad airport controlled by coalition security forces, damaging a civilian helicopter.

NATO-led coalition security forces without elaborating further confirmed the incident and said coalition security forces did not suffer any casualties following the missile attack.

No group has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.

This comes as at least 8 Afghan security forces were killed in a similar attack carried out by militants in Jalalabad airport back in March.

Apr. 13., 2013. - ISAF Joint Command Operational Update

KABUL, Afghanistan - An Afghan and coalition security force arrested a senior Taliban leader and detained two other insurgents during an operation in Nad 'Ali district, Helmand province, April 12.

The leader commands multiple cells of Taliban fighters and with his subordinates, is alleged to have participated in numerous complex attacks against Afghan and coalition forces throughout Helmand province.

During an operation in Burkah district, Baghlan province April 11, an Afghan and coalition security force arrested a senior Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan leader. The leader is believed to be in charge of a cell of insurgents responsible for improvised explosive device operations against Afghan and coalition forces throughout Balkh province.

South

An Afghan and coalition security force detained a number of insurgents during an operation in search of a Taliban leader in Panjwa'i district, Kandahar province, April 12. The leader is alleged to maintain control of a group of insurgent fighters responsible for multiple attacks against Afghan and coalition forces, including the kidnapping of Afghan government officials. The security force also seized 50 pounds of hashish as a result of the operation.

During an operation in search of a Taliban facilitator in Kandahar district, Kandahar province April 11, an Afghan and coalition security force detained one suspected insurgent. The facilitator is responsible for IED logistics around Kandahar district to include procuring homemade explosives, assisting in IED construction, and delivery of completed devices for use in attacks against Afghan and coalition forces.

East

An Afghan and coalition security force arrested a Haqqani leader and detained one other insurgent during an operation in Pul-e 'Alam district, Logar province, April 12. The leader is believed responsible for weapons facilitation in Pul-e 'Alam district, and for controlling a group of fighters responsible for IED attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. The security force also seized IED-making material as a result of the raid.

During an operation in search of a Haqqani leader in Musa Khel district, Khost province April 11, an Afghan and coalition security force detained a number of insurgents. The Haqqani leader is believed responsible for procuring and distributing weapons and IEDs to his fellow fighters for attacks against Afghan and coalition forces throughout Khost province. The security force also seized fragmentary grenades, AK-47s, a pistol, and a significant amount of ammunition as a result of the operation.

Apr. 13., 2013. - RC-East operational update

BAGRAM, Afghanistan - Afghan National Security and coalition forces detained two suspected insurgents, discovered three weapons caches and found and safely cleared 11 improvised explosive devices during operations in eastern Afghanistan throughout the past 24 hours, April 12.

Ghazni province
Afghan National Security Forces and Coalition Forces found and safely cleared one IED during operations in the Gelan district.

Afghan National Security Forces discovered three weapons caches during operations in the Ghazni district. One cache contained four IEDs, 40 pounds of explosive making materiel, four rocket-propelled grenade rounds, three 82 mm mortar heads, one artillery round, four 30 mm rounds, three AK-47s with eight magazines, one machine gun with 300 rounds, one grenade, five tactical vests, two cameras and additional IED making materiel. A second cache contained more than 600 pounds of explosive making materiel and 40 sticks of explosives. A third cache contained 110 pounds of explosive making materiel.

Khowst province
Afghan National Security and coalition forces found and safely cleared three IEDs and detained two suspected insurgents during operations in the Khowst d istrict. The detained suspects were transferred to a base for questioning.
