Mar. 11., 2013. - RC-East operational update

BAGRAM, Afghanistan - Afghan and coalition forces detained one suspected insurgent, killed one insurgent, found and safely cleared one improvised explosive devices and found one weapons cache during operations in eastern Afghanistan throughout the past 24 hours, March 10.

Afghan and coalition forces killed one insurgent during operations in the Dehyak district

Afghan National Security Forces found and safely cleared an IED during operations in the Ghazni district.

Afghan National Security Forces discovered a weapons cache during operations in the Ghazni district. The cache consisted of 22 rocket-propelled grenades, 13 82mm mortars, four radios, three pistols and two radio chargers.

Parwan province
Afghan and coalition forces detained a suspected insurgent during operations in the Bagram district. The suspected insurgent was taken to a base for questioning.

Feb. 27., 2013. - RC-East operational update

BAGRAM, Afghanistan - Afghan and coalition forces discovered one weapons cache and cleared two improvised explosive devices during operations in eastern Afghanistan throughout the past 24 hours, Feb. 26.

Parwan province
Coalition forces discovered a weapons cache during an operation in Bagram district. The cache contained 20 rockets and six cases of gunpowder.

Nangarhar province
Afghan National Security Forces found and safely cleared an IED in Bati Kot district.

Khowst province
Afghan National Security Forces found and safely cleared an IED in Nadir Shah Kot district.

Operations in RC-East are ongoing.

Police, rebels suffer causalities in Parwan clash

CHARIKAR (PAN): One policeman was killed and six others were wounded during a clash with militants in the Siah Gird district of central Parwan province, an official said on Thursday.                                   

The incident took place on Wednesday night when the insurgents stormed a police check-post in the area. One rebel was killed and two others were wounded in the ensuing clash that lasted an hour.

Senior district official, Haji Mohammad Aziz, told Pajhwok Afghan News the assailants managed to take away their dead and wounded colleagues.

Civil Hospital Director Dr. Mohammad Qasim Saeedi confirmed receiving six wounded people. They were in stable condition, he said.

A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, claimed responsibility for the attack, saying that seven policemen were killed, two wounded and another two captured alive. Only one rebel was wounded in attack, he added.

4 killed by own explosives in Parwan

CHARIKAR (PAN): Four people, including two bomb makers, were killed when an improvised explosives device went off prematurely inside a house in central Parwan province on Friday, a police official said on Saturday.

The two bomb makers were at work on making an IED Friday night when it exploded in a house in the Dadu neighborhood on the outskirts of Charikar, the provincial capital of Parwan, the deputy police chief, Zia-ur-Rahman Faiz, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The bombers, the owner of the house identified as Mullah Jan Aqa and a local resident died in the explosion, while Aqa’s 10-year-old son was wounded, Faiz said.

Police seized one Kalashnikov rifle, two hand grenades and a large amount of explosives from the house, Faiz said.

The head of Parwan Civil Hospital, Dr. Abdul Wali Qadari, confirmed receiving two dead bodies and a wounded person, he said.

Taliban torch US troops warehouse in northren Afghanistan

According to local authorities in northern Parwan province of Afghanistan, a warehouse belonging to Supreme Group which is providing procurement to US troops in Afghanistan caught fire in this province.

Provincial Council Chief Haji Ahmad Zaki Zahid confirming the report said the incident took place 11 pm local time on Friday night and the warehouse was still burning.

Mr. Zahid further added it is yet not known what types of items were being kept inside the ware.

In the meantime company spokeswoman says insurgents attacked a warehouse full of food and supplies for troops with rocket-propelled grenades at the main U.S. base in Afghanistan late Friday, sparking a fire that destroyed the warehouse and everything inside.

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid says in an email that the fire at the Supreme Group compound destroyed a “large stock of food meant for U.S. troops.”

Supreme Group spokeswoman Victoria Frost says no one was injured and the fire was contained by morning, though some areas were still smoldering. She says they are working to make up for the lost inventory with supplies from other warehouses.

8 rockets fired on Bagram airbase

CHARIKAR (PAN): Eight missiles were fired on the Bagram Airbase, a major military centre of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), in the central province of Parwan on Friday, officials said.

The missiles landed in the Khanjarkhel area, two kilometres east of the base, the district police chief, Col. Zamaray Nasiri, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Security personnel had mounted a manhunt for the attackers, he said, without blaming anyone for the assault.

“We heard the sound of rockets at 5am,” resident Malik Mirza said.

A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, claimed they had fired 10 missiles on the base, inflicting casualties and material losses on foreign troops.

4 dead, chopper destroyed in US military base Bagram attack

CHARIKAR (PAN): Four Afghan security personnel were killed and a helicopter destroyed during a rocket strike on the main US airbase in central Parwan province on Tuesday, the anniversary of 9/11 attacks on the US, an official said.

The rockets were fired from western part of the airport early in the morning, provincial police chief, Brig. Gen. Mohammad Akram Baikzad, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the rockets landed near the helicopter at the heavily-fortified airfield at a time when Afghan and foreign troops were heading to Koh-i-Safi district for a security operation.

Three intelligence operatives and a policeman were killed in the attack, which wounded four more police officials, including Parwan Highway Commander Col. Mohammad Ghayas.

With the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) yet to comment on the incident, Baikzad said he had no information about foreign troop casualties.

A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said the fighters had fired a barrage of rockets salvos at the base, inflicting casualties on a number of American troops. Afghan soldiers were also killed and some aircraft damaged, he concluded.

A day earlier, the United States handed control of the controversial Bagram prison and its 3,000 inmates to Afghan authorities.

According to Afghan security officials, at least 3 people were killed following missile attacks by militants on a US military base in northern Parwan province of Afghanistan.

A spokesman for the NATO-led International coalition security forces Michael Cole confirming the report said several rockets hit Bagram Airfield in Parwan province late Monday, destroying one helicopter and damaging several others.

An Afghan security official said the three people who were killed following the attack were members of the Afghan Intelligence — National Directorate of Security.

Reports suggest a number of Afghan and international service members were also said to be wounded in the attack.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the assault that came hours after the U.S. forces transferred control of the prison at Bagram to Afghan authorities.

Bagram air base, about 50 kilometres (30 miles) north of capital Kabul is located in Parwan province which sees little of the Taliban-led insurgency, but the base comes under insurgent rocket attacks from time to time.

A similar attack on the base in August damaged the aircraft of General Martin Dempsey, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff who was visiting the war-torn country. Two service members were wounded at that time.

American engineer shot dead in northern Afghanistan

According to local officials in northern Afghanistan, unknown gunmen assassinated an an American civilian who reportedly worked as an electrical engineer in Afghanistan.

US embassy in Kabul confirmed the report on Tuesday however no further details were provided regarding the death of the American civilian in Afghanistan because of privacy laws.

In the meantime local security officials in northern Afghanistan confirmed the man, an electrical engineer working in Afghanistan for about 30 years, was shot Monday by gunmen as he rode in a mini-bus in northern Parwan province.

The officials further added at least two Afghans including the driver and colleague of the American engineer were also shot dead by gunmen.

Siagerd district police chief Shirin Agha said the American had been dressed in Afghan clothes and had a long beard.

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid claimed responsibility for the killings.

Koh-i-Safi Taliban chief nabbed

CHARIKAR/MAHMOODRAQI (PAN): Two militants were killed and a Taliban-designated district chief, along with his associate, detained in central Parwan and Kapisa provinces, the spy service said on Sunday.

The National Directorate of Security in a statement said the Taliban-designated district chief for Koh-i-Safi, Mullah Rohullah and his associate were detained based on an intelligence report in the town on Sunday.

The statement said Rohullah was involved in various insurgent activities and his arrest would help improve security in the district.

Elsewhere in Kapisa, 10 heavy bullets, seven rockets and some ammunition were seized in Syed Khil and Koh-i-Safi districts and Charikar city, added the statement.

Separately, two Taliban militants were killed during an airstrike by foreign troops in the Alasai district in Kapisa on Saturday night, said Mullah Mohammad Omari, the town's administrative head.

He said the operation was jointly conducted by Afghan and foreign troops.

Taliban have not yet commented on the incident.

13 Taliban killed in Parwan operation

CHARIKAR/GHAZNI CITY (PAN): Over a dozen Taliban fighters were killed on Thursday during an operation by the security forces in central province of Parwan, officials said.

Thirteen Taliban fighters were killed and four others wounded in the operation carried out by Afghan forces, backed by NATO air cover, in the Sya Gard district of Ghorband valley, governor’s spokesperson Roshna Khalid told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The Owkan, Qamchaq and Dashtak areas of the district were freed from Taliban presence during the operation, launched two days ago, said district chief Mohammad Sayed Siddiqui.

But Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed they killed eight Afghan soldiers and injured several others during the two-hour clash in the Wazghar area of the district.

During the clash foreign troops bombed the area but there was no casualties on Taliban fighters, he added.

Separately, security personnel seized an explosives-laden car on Wednesday in a market in the district, but none detained in connection with the incident, said the spokeswoman.

In southern Ghazni province, 10 people were injured on Wednesday evening after Taliban fired rockets landed in a bazaar in Maqur district, said governor’s spokesman Sabawoon.

Traders were among the victims, said a shopkeeper Akhtar Mohammad, and he urged Taliban not to harm innocent civilians.

However, Taliban spokesman Mujhaid claimed they attacked the Provincial Reconstruction Team building in the district -- killing three Afghan soldiers.

2 Taliban group leaders killed in Parwan

CHARIKAR (PAN): Two Taliban group leaders were killed and their three accomplices were injured during an ongoing search operation in the Ghorband valley of central Parwan province on Tuesday, an official said.

The operation is jointly conducted by Afghan and international troops, deputy police chief, Col. Ziaur Rahman Fayed, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The offensive was underway in Wazghar, Qamchaq, Sayedan, Tikhan, Sardara and Yakhdara mountainous areas, he added.

The slain rebels leaders were identified as Mullah Abu-Bakar and Rah Din. They were killed at the start of the operation, the police official said.

The Siagird district chief Mohammad Syed Siddiqui said the killed commanders as prominent members of the Taliban movement. They were involved in attacks on Afghan and foreign troops, he added.

Meanwhile, a Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the fighters blew up an Afghan army vehicle in the Ghorband valley and them attacked the troops, killing seven of them, a claim rejected by local officials.

Taliban commander killed over illicit relation charges

According to local authorities in northern Parwan province, a local Taliban commander accused of having illicit relations with an Afghan woman was killed by Taliban militants in this province.

Shinwari district chief Abdul Rahil confirming the report said the Taliban commander Mullah Abdul Qadir was killed along with the Afghan woman over illicit relations charges late Friday night.

Mr. Rahil further added the accused Afghan woman was being traced by the Taliban militants for the last few months.

He also said the deceased Taliban commander Mullah Abdul Qadir was also accused of disclosing information regarding another Taliban leader Mullah Izatullah who was killed by security forces in Seyar Gerd district.

According to district chief Abdul Rahil the Taliban militants attacked the house of Mullah Qadir and shot dead the Afghan woman along with the local Taliban commander in his house.

Taliban militants group yet to comment regarding the report.

Mullah Izatullah a prominent Taliban leader in Ghorband valley and was killed following a military operation around 2 weeks back in northern Parwan province.

Ghorband valley is considered to be one of the volatile regions in northern Parwan province where Taliban militants are openly operating in a number of its districts.

A member of the Bamiyan provincial council member Jawad Zahak was also kidnapped and killed by Taliban militants in Ghorband valley last year.

Afghan interior ministry following a statement on Monday announced, a local Taliban commander was killed following a military operation in northern Parwan province.

The source further added the operation was conducted by Afghan local police forces at Ghorband district in this province on Monday morning.

Afghan interior ministry following the statement also added Mullah Izatullah who was killed this morning was involved in organizing insurgency attacks in Ghorband district of northern Parwan province.

Taliban militants group yet to comment regarding the reports.

45 militants killed in Afghanistan within 24 hours

KABUL: At least 45 Taliban militants have been killed in operations carried out by Afghan and NATO-led troops, the interior ministry said on Sunday.

The forces launched 10 "clean-up" operations in Kabul, Laghman, Parwan, Helmand, Uruzgan and Farah provinces, in which, 33 militants were killed, Xinhua reported citing a ministry statement.

Six militants were injured and nine were captured during the raids. The statement, however, did not say if there were any casualties among the security forces.

Eight Taliban militants were killed in a special force operation in Bati Kot district of eastern Nangarhar province Saturday night, said Ahmad Zia Abdulzai, a spokesman for the provincial government.

Four militants were killed when an anti-tank mine blew up prematurely in Jani Khil district of Pakitka province, the ministry said.

According to figures released by the interior ministry, around 430 militants have been killed, 130 wounded and over 450 others detained since May 1.

General Allen Visits Attacked Base



The Commander of ISAF and US troops in Afghanistan, General John Allen, has been to visit the base in the east of the country where two US soldiers were killed yesterday by a man wearing an Afghan army uniform.
General Allen was accompanied on his trip by General Sher Mohammed Karimi, the Afghan National Army's Chief of Staff. At the time of the incident, the base was under attack by protestors demonstrating against the burning of Koran at the detainee facility in Parwan.

            The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
          
Pfc. Michael W. Pyron, 30, of Hopewell, Va., died Jan. 10 in Parwan province, Afghanistan.  He was assigned to the 25th Signal Battalion, 160th Signal Brigade, 335th Signal Command Theater, East Point, Ga.
