In Several Joint Clearance Operations, 10 Armed Taliban Killed (Apr.14.2013)

Counterterrorism:
In past 24 hours, Afghan National Police conducted several joint clearance operations with the cooperation of Afghan National Army, NDS and Coalition Forces to clean some of the areas from terrorists and enemies of peace and stability of Afghanistan.
 
The operations were conducted in Kunar, Zabul, Uruzgan, Khost, Paktiya, Badghis and Helmand provinces, as a result 10 armed Taliban were killed and three other armed Taliban were arrested by Afghan National Security Forces.                                                                                      
 
Also, during these operations, Afghan National Police discovered and confiscated some amount of light and heavy round ammunitions and IEDs.
 
During the same 24 hour period, Afghan National Police discovered and defused five anti-vehicle mines and 70 kilos of explosives placed by enemies of Afghanistan for destructive activities in Daikundi, Nangarhar and Herat HeHhhhhhhhprovinces.

Counter Crimes:
The 101 Kabul Zone National Police detained 10 suspects accused of murder, theft and drug trafficking in the 2nd, 3rd, 10th, 11th and 13th Districts of Kabul-City.

Insider attack in Jawzjan leaves 1 police dead, 6 abducted

According to local authorities in northern Jawzjan province of Afghanistan, at least two people including a local police commander was killed after Taliban militants took over a security check post following a deal with another local police officer in this province.
The officials further added a Taliban commander recognized as Mawlavi Hekmatullah attacked the security check post. He was arrested by Afghan security forces and was released from the prison four months back.

In the meantime Darzab district governor Rahmatullah Hashar said Taliban militants conquered the security check post without any fighting.

Mr. Hashar further added, Taliban militants also abducted six local police officers with them and only two police officers survived from the attack.

He said Taliban militants also 10 rifles and 1 RPG with them.

According to Rahmatullah Hashar, the Taliban commander Mawlavi Hekmatullah was released from the prison after a number of tribal elders brokered talks with the government around 4 months back.

A spokesman for the Taliban militants group Zabiullah Mujahid claimed responsibility behind the incident and said at least 4 Afghan local police officers were killed and six others who were wounded were abducted by Taliban fighters.

3 Taliban killed by own bomb

MAIMANA (PAN): Three Taliban insurgents were killed in a blast caused by their own explosives in the northern province of Faryab, officials said on Saturday.

They were planting a roadside bomb in the Qush Kam area of Khwaja Sabz Posh district on Friday night when the device went off prematurely, police spokesman Syed Masoud Yaqubi told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Separately, three Taliban men, including a commander named Mullah Fairoz, were detained by police in the Pakhtunkot district. The district chief said the arrests were made in Sorkhab area.

Apr. 14., 2013. - ISAF Joint Command Operational Update

KABUL, Afghanistan – An Afghan and coalition security force killed two insurgents during an operation in search of a senior Taliban leader in Panjwa’i district, Kandahar province, April 12.

The senior leader is alleged to be in charge of approximately 50 fighters and is believed responsible for directing all attacks against Afghan and coalition forces in western and central Panjwa’i district. He is also considered vital to improvised explosive device operations throughout the district.

An Afghan and coalition security force killed one insurgent during an operation in search of a Taliban leader in Washer district, Helmand province, April 12. The insurgent leader is believed to head a cell of fighters responsible for IED attacks involving Afghan civilians in Kandahar district, Kandahar province. He is also linked to the facilitation of weapons and vehicles for use in attacks against Afghan and coalition forces in the area.

East

In Sabari district, Khost province, April 13, an Afghan and coalition security force arrested one insurgent during an operation in search of a Haqqani leader. The insurgent leader is believed responsible for acquiring and distributing weapons to fellow insurgents. He is alleged to have operational control over a cell of fighters in the district and to have personally led his subordinates in rocket-propelled grenade attacks against Afghan and coalition forces.

Apr. 14., 2013. - RC-East operational update

BAGRAM, Afghanistan - Afghan National Security and coalition forces detained one suspected insurgent, discovered six weapons caches and found and safely cleared six improvised explosive devices during operations in eastern Afghanistan throughout the past 24 hours, April 13.

Ghazni province
Afghan National Security and coalition forces found and safely cleared one IED and discovered six weapons caches during operations in the Ghazni district. One cache contained nearly 90 pounds of explosive materiel. A second cache contained four mortar rounds. A third cache contained an additional four mortar rounds. A fourth cache contained machine gun ammunition. A fifth cache contained two IEDs, one made from a 107 mm rocket and one 66 pound jug IED, one artillery round, one landmine and two radios. A sixth cache contained 440 pounds of homemade explosives, two rockets and other IED making materiel.

Logar province
Afghan National Security and coalition forces found and safely cleared one IED during operations in the Pul-E-Alam district.

Parwan Province
Afghan National Security and coalition forces detained one suspected insurgent during operations in the Bagram District. The detained suspect was transferred to a base for questioning.

Wardak Province
Afghan National Security and coalition forces found and safely cleared one IED during operations in the Jalrayz district.

Afghan National Security Forces found and safely cleared one IED during operations in the Sayyidabad district.

Coalition forces found and safely cleared two IEDs during operations in the Chak-E-Wardak district.
