R.I.P. - Albanian Army Captain Feti Vogli

Albanian Army Captain Feti Vogli, age 30, was killed in southern Afghanistan on 20th February 2012 while escorting a USAID team to a meeting with local Afghan officials.

Afghan police officers, who were accompanying the group, opened fire on the NATO troops. Captain Vogli died later at a hospital in Kandahar whilst a second Albanian soldier was in a coma at the hospital.

Captain Vogli was born in Baldushk, near Tirana. He graduated from the Albanian Military Academy specializing in Army Artillery. He completed the Special Forces Course in 2005 and joined the Special Forces Battalion as Group Commander.

He leaves his wife Alva and their 2-year-old daughter Egi.

3 Georgian soldiers killed in action

Three soldiers from Georgia were killed in action on 21st February 2012 during a combat mission in Helmand province.

The three servicemen were named as
Corporal Beraia Valiko,
Corporal Meladze Ruslan  and
Corporal Kacharava Paata.
They were killed when their combat vehicle exploded following an insurgent attack.

All three served in the 31st Light Infantry Battalion of the 3rd Infantry Brigade.

The Ministry of Defence of Georgia extends its condolences over the death of the Georgian military servicemen,  Corporals - Beraia Valiko, Meladze Ruslan and Kacharava Paata who were performing a peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan. 

The Georgian military servicemen died while they were carrying out combat task. Their combat vehicle exploded following an insurgent attack.

The Georgian military servicemen served in the 31st light infantry battalion of the 3rd Infantry Brigade in the province of Helmand within the NATO-led ISAF operation.

Feb.22., 2012. - ISAF Joint Command Morning Operational Update

KABUL, Afghanistan – An Afghan and coalition security force captured a Taliban facilitator during an operation in Lashkar Gah district, Helmand province, today.

The facilitator operated in the tri-border region of Nahr-e Saraj, Lashkar Gah and Maiwand districts where he distributed bomb-making materials.

Several additional suspected insurgents were also detained.

South

An Afghan and coalition security force captured two Taliban leaders during an operation in Nahr-e Saraj district, Helmand province, today. One leader coordinated improvised explosive device attacks throughout the Nahr-e Saraj district, while the second leader directed insurgent fighters and distributed weapons for use in attacks against coalition forces.

East

Coalition security forces captured a Taliban facilitator during an operation in Pul-e ‘Alam district, Logar province, today. The facilitator acquired weapons for insurgent fighters in Nerkh district, Wardak province.
