26 Insurgents Surrender to Authorities in Baghlan

Twenty-six insurgents have laid down their weapons and surrendered to authorities in northern Baghlan province, local officials said.

"Twenty six Taliban fighters under Mullah Imam gave up fighting and handed over their weapons to authorities in Borka district today," Baghlan deputy provincial governor Abdul Qadim told journalists.

He said that the joining of these former militants to the peace process would help improve the security situation in the Borka district.

It comes as Afghan and Nato troops have increased their military operations in northern Afghanistan which has seen dozens of insurgents killed or captured.
