NATO-led International Security Assistance Force officials following a statement on Wednesday announced, a Haqqani Network leader was killed following a joint military operation by Afghan and coalition security forces in eastern Khost province.
The statement further added, the leader, named Namat, organized roadside bombings and other attacks against Afghan and coalition security forces throughout the district.
ISAF said, “As the security force approached his suspected location, Namat along with several other insurgents opened fire. The security force returned fire, killing Namat who was armed with an AK-47, a pistol and multiple grenades.”
Following the exchange of fire, multiple additional Haqqani insurgents were detained, ISAF confirmed.
Anti-government armed militant groups yet to comment regarding the report.
