SHARAN (PAN): Fifteen rebels were killed during an airstrike by foreign troops in the Orgun district of southeastern Paktika province, officials said on Thursday.

An Afghan National Army (ANA) base came under Taliban attack in Manikando area late on Wednesday, a spokesman for the 203rd Thunder Military Corps, Samiullah, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) bombarded the rebels after the Afghan army sought air support from it. Weapons and ammunitions were also seized from the fighters.

A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said eight US soldiers were killed or wounded when their tank struck a roadside bomb in Khoshamand district.

Separately, one insurgent was killed and two others were detained during an operation by foreign troops in the Khogyani district of eastern Nangarhar province, police spokesman Hazrat Husain Mashriqiwal said.

A statement from the ISAF media office in east confirmed the operation. It said the offensive was carried by a special force from Kabul.
