ASADABAD (PAN): Three Taliban fighters were killed by Afghan troops in the eastern province of Kunar, bordering Pakistan’s tribal region of Bajaur, officials said on Friday.
The insurgents were killed on Thursday as a result of artillery shelling in the Yakha China area of Khas Kunar district, a spokesman of 2nd brigade of ANA, Maj. Haroon Yousafzai, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the militants, who had sneaked into the area from Pakistan to conduct disruptive activities, were targeted by the Afghan military. The border area is largely uninhabited.

The Taliban have so far said nothing about the shelling, but their spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed the fighters had killed four Afghan soldiers and destroyed two of their vehicles as a result of attacks on their checkpoints in Marawara and Manogai districts.
