May 30., 2013. - ISAF Joint Command Operational Update

KABUL, Afghanistan – An Afghan and coalition security force arrested three insurgents during an operation in search of a senior Taliban leader in Archi district, Kunduz province, today.

The senior leader is responsible for constructing improvised explosive devices and suicide vests for use in insurgent operations. He has also directed and coordinated attacks in Archi district resulting in the deaths of numerous Afghan National Security Force personnel.

During the operation, a group of insurgents opened fire on the security force. The security force returned fire, killing three fighters.

The security force also seized two AK-47s, one sub-machine gun, one rocket-propelled grenade launcher and eight rocket-propelled grenades as a result of the operation.

Afghan and coalition security forces confirmed today the arrest of a Taliban facilitator in Panjwa’i district, Kandahar province, Tuesday. The facilitator is responsible for acquiring weapons and military equipment for use in attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He also directs improvised explosive device operations in Panjwa’i district and manages a number of weapons caches.

An Afghan and coalition security force arrested six insurgents during two operations in search of a senior Haqqani leader in Pul-e ‘Alam district, Logar province, today. The senior leader is responsible for planning, facilitating and organizing attacks in Pul-e ‘Alam. He facilitates the movement of weapons and fighters in the local area, serves as a financier for high-profile attack networks active in Kabul, and has managerial responsibility over insurgent network personnel decisions. The security force also seized one bolt-action rifle as a result of the operation.

An Afghan and coalition security force killed one insurgent during an operation in search of a Haqqani leader in Zurmat district, Paktiya province, yesterday. The leader is responsible for kidnapping operations in the local area. He also conducts improvised explosive device and small-arms fire attacks against Afghan and coalition forces.
