NATO airstrike kill Taliban leader in Logar province

A Taliban leader Mawlawi Sadiq was killed following a NATO airstrike in eastern Logar province.

International Security Assistance Force following a statement on Friday announced, Afghan and coalition security force conducted a operation, in Charkh district, Logar province, Thursday.

The target of the operation was Maulawi Sadiq, a Taliban leader and explosives expert who coordinated the movement of insurgents, provided explosive materials and training to insurgents, and planned attacks against Afghan and Coalition forces in the region.

During the operation, the Afghan and coalition security force requested a precision airstrike. After the strike, the security force conducted a follow-on assessment and confirmed Sadiq had been killed.

The precision airstrike did not harm any civilians and did not damage any civilian property. Anti-government armed militant groups yet to comment regarding the report.

7 killed 4 hurt in air strikes in Tirrah

LANDIKOTAL : The forces have claimed to killed seven militants and wounded four others in air strikes conducted by the forces jets here in Dwa Toai area of tehsil Jamrud,sub-division of Khyber, official sources said on Tuesday. The sources said that last night at 11.00 pm the forces war planes targeted suspected hideouts of militants in far-flung Tirrah valley and inflicted lives lost on them.

However, the dwellers and local leaders of the area regretted and condemned the action of the forces and said that forces air planes bombarded civilian population and killed innocent tribesmen which must be investigated.

Tela Baz lamented that the forces jet planes which hit his home in the area killed his bother Noorbaz khan his nephew Kafayatullah and injured his sister-in-law whose funeral prayers were performed here on Tuesday in Kafer Tangee area of Jamrud.

Bakht Jamal, a local tribesman while commenting on the incident said,”It is not the first happen but in the near past in forces offenses against the miscreants hundreds of innocent tribal have been killed as collateral damages which is unjuistice to them.”

Afghan official: NATO airstrike kills 8 family members

Kabul, Afghanistan (CNN) -- A suspected NATO airstrike killed eight civilians -- including six children -- in eastern Afghanistan, a provincial spokesman said.

The airstrike took place Saturday night in Paktia province, said Rohullah Samoon, spokesman for the governor of Paktia. He said an entire family was killed in the strike.

A large number of insurgents attacked NATO troops in the province, prompting them to return fire and ask for air support from a nearby base, said Maj. Martyn Crighton, a spokesman for the International Security Assistance Force.

The international coalition is aware of the reports that civilians died in an airstrike, Crighton said.

"We are taking any claim about civilian casualty very seriously, and we are looking at finding out information about what really happened last night," he said Sunday.

An investigation is in the early stages, and the international coalition is not taking or rejecting responsibility yet, Crighton said.

Samoon said the operation had not been coordinated with Afghan security forces. He said investigators have been sent to the area and will report their findings to President Hamid Karzai.

Karzai has assigned a delegation to investigate the incident, according to a statement from his office.

Separately, four ISAF service members were killed Saturday in southern Afghanistan, NATO said Sunday. The service members -- whose nationalities were not disclosed -- died after separate improvised explosive device attacks, the alliance said.

Pak combat jets kill 15 Taliban militants

ISLAMABAD -- Pakistani combat jets today pounded militant hideouts in the Orakzai tribal region of northwest Pakistan killing at least 15 Taliban fighters, officials said.

Four hideouts were destroyed in the air strikes carried out near the Afghan border by two combat jets.

The attack was launched after intelligence reports said militants of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan were hiding in the area, officials said.

The air strikes were carried out in Khadizai, Samar Bazar and Bermela areas.

The casualties could not be independently confirmed as journalists are barred from reporting from the region.

The Taliban has a strong presence in parts of Orakzai Agency, which has witnessed clashes between security forces and militants.
