KABUL, Afghanistan – An Afghan and coalition security force arrested a Taliban leader and one other enemy of Afghanistan during an operation in Marjeh district, Helmand province, June 1.

The leader is responsible for multiple direct and indirect fire attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He is also involved in the construction of vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices for use in attacks and provides operational reports to his fellow Taliban fighters.

The security force also seized one mortar round and one AK-47 magazine as a result of the operation.

An Afghan and coalition security force arrested one enemy of Afghanistan during an operation in search of a Taliban leader in Kandahar City, Kandahar province, June 1. The leader maintains operational control over a group of fighters responsible for coordinating improvised explosive device and direct fire attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He has also directed assassinations against Afghan civilians and has facilitated the movement of weapons in Kandahar City and Shah Wali Kot district

Afghan and coalition security forces confirmed June 1 the death of a senior Taliban leader, Razaq, during an operation in Khakrez district, Kandahar province, Thursday. Razaq directed and executed improvised explosive device, indirect fire and direct fire attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He provided instruction on making IEDs and distributed suicide vests for use in attacks. He was also responsible for the facilitation of IEDs, weapons and military equipment for multiple Taliban groups operating in Kandahar.

An Afghan and coalition security force arrested two enemies of Afghanistan during an operation in search of a senior Taliban leader in Khugyani district, Nangarhar province, June 1. The senior leader is responsible for a wide range of Taliban activity. He oversees a group of fighters involved in ambushes, improvised explosive device operations and complex attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He also facilitates the movement of weapons in various districts throughout Nangarhar province and serves as an intelligence operative for senior Taliban officials. The security force also seized eight pounds of opium as a result of the operation.

May 26., 2013. - ISAF Joint Command Operational Update

KABUL, Afghanistan - An Afghan and coalition security force arrested a Haqqani high-profile attack facilitator and one other insurgent during an operation in Pul-e ‘Alam district, Logar province, May 26.

The facilitator is responsible for coordinating weapons, improvised explosive devices and suicide attackers for use in attacks targeting Afghan and coalition forces. He also houses transient Taliban commanders in his residence when they pass through his area of operations.

The security force also seized 25 kilograms of bomb-making material as a result of the operation.

An Afghan and coalition security force arrested a Taliban facilitator and one other insurgent during an operation in Kandahar City, Kandahar province, May 26. The facilitator provides weapons and military equipment for multiple insurgent groups active in the Arghandab River Valley and Kandahar City. He also coordinates suicide bombing operations against Afghan and coalition forces.

East

ANA Special Forces, Afghan Local Police, and coalition forces, killed 22 insurgents after the joint force was engaged by insurgents with heavy enemy fire near Sujja Ahmand village, Gelan district, Ghazni province, May 25. The forces were in the area to discuss the construction of future ALP checkpoints with the local populace when the incident took place. An Afghan quick reaction force joined the fight shortly after ALP radioed the District Operations Coordination Center for reinforcements. Following the engagement, Afghan Nation Security Forces recovered five motorcycles, two PKMs with more than 1600 rounds of ammunition, two RPG launchers with 14 RPG rounds and several rifles.

5 insurgents detained in Kandahar

KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): Two commanders were among five insurgents detained by intelligence operatives in southern Kandahar province, an official said on Saturday.

The National Directorate of Security official said the detainees included Maulvi Abdul Hai, accused of killing an intelligence operative some time ago. The five were shown to media representatives.

Abdul Hai told reporters he had been active against the government under the command of Haji Agha, a Taliban commander in Dand district. He confessed to killing the intelligence official in the Mir market area of Kandahar City on the directives of his leaders.

Officials said a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) and a pistol were recovered from Abdul Hai.

Another detainee, who introduced himself as Najmuddin, a resident of Badghis province, said he led an eight-member rebel group.

Gul Mohammad, alias Sufi, said he headed a 10-member militant group. Mohammad added he had been sent to Afghanistan by his Pakistani mentors to organise attacks against Afghan and international troops.

2 dead in Kandahar bike blast

KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): A child and a policeman were killed when a bomb-rigged motorbike went off in the southern city of Kandahar late on Thursday, an official said.

The explosives-packed bike had been parked on a road in the Brekhnakot area in the jurisdiction of the first police district, the governor’s spokesman said.

Javed Faisal said another two children and a policeman were injured when the bike was detonated with a remote-controlled device around 7pm.

Witness Mohammad Salim, who runs a shop in the area, said the blast occurred when the crowd in the bazaar started swelling. He confirmed a child and a policeman were killed.

30 suspects detained, weapons seized

KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): Local officials in the southern province of Kandahar on Thursday said nearly 30 people were arrested for involvement in criminal activities -- ranging from drug smuggling to having links with militants.

Speaking at a news conference, deputy police chief Col. Rahmatullah Atrafi said a man with an explosives-laden rickshaw was arrested in Kandahar City Thursday morning. The triwheeler was found in the fourth police district.

One militant was killed and another eight suspects were arrested during operations in several districts of the province this week, the police official said.

During the offensive, police also seized 171 walkie-talkies, 150 sacks of ammonium nitrate used in making roadside bombs, 17 bombs, mortar, Kalashnikov, five motorcycles and four boxes of bullets.

Atrafi added another nine people were arrested on charges of criminal activities and six motorbikes and two cars seized from the group.

Thirteen people, in possession of 41 kg of heroin and 106 kg of hashish, were also detained, he added. Atraif hoped the security situation would further improve with cooperation from local people.

Would-be bomber among 7 held in Kandahar

KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): A would-be suicide bomber was among seven insurgents detained in a string of intelligence operations in southern Kandahar province over the past week, the governor said on Sunday.

The detainees included three commanders who led their groups, each containing 10 members, in Shah Walikot and Takhta Pul districts against local and foreign troops, Tooryalai Weesa told a press conference in Kandahar City, the provincial capital.

The detainees, who were shown to media personnel at the press briefing at the National Directorate of Security office, confessed to involvement in the insurgency.

A would-be bomber, Asadullah, a resident of Spin Boldak district, told reporters his father had sent him to a religious school in Pakistan’s Bachistan province. But he was trained as a suicide bomber at the school in the Chaman border region.

Weapons and explosives recovered from the detainees were also shown to reporters.
