ISAF forces repel failed suicide attack on FOB Finley-Shields - RC-East PAO

NANGARHAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Insurgents here attacked an ISAF installation located here in Jalalabad, Afghanistan, at 1:53 p.m., April 15, allegedly killing one civilian with a vehicular-borne suicide bomb and small arms fire. Three insurgents were killed and one wounded and captured in the attack.

At approximately 1:30 p.m., a large explosion occurred outside Forward Operating Base Fenty, near the airfield located in Jalalabad. The attack caused no damage or injuries to the installation.

According to the Nangahar Governor’s Office, Afghan Security Forces responded to the scene of the explosion and captured 26 RPG rockets and two launchers, 1 PK-machine gun with 500 rounds, three AK-47 assault rifles, nine hand grenades, one pistol and several master keys. Four dead insurgents were recovered at the scene of the explosion.

The attack on Forward Operating Base Finley-Shields, which was quickly repulsed by the base defenders, sparked a fire on the base.

The incidents are currently under investigation.

Nigeria: Two Boko Haram Suspects Killed in Maiduguri

Two suspected Boko Haram militants were shot dead on Friday after a raid on their meeting point near the NNPC station, Abbaganaram, a statement by Joint Task Force (JTF) has said.

The statement was signed by Lt.-Col. Sagir Musa, the Spokesman for the JTF on 'Operation Restore Order' (ORO) and made available to newsmen in Maiduguri.

It said that the militants were marshalling out plans to cause havoc in the city before they were raided.

"Following a tip-off, the JTF troops today attacked Boko Haram meeting point at Abbaganaram near the NNPC station, Maiduguri, where about 10 suspected terrorists were holding a meeting.

"The gathering was with a view to cause mayhem in the city."

It said that immediately they sighted the JTF troops the suspects attempted to escape.

"One of them was sporadically shooting at the troop's direction. In an exchange of fire, two of them got shot while one was arrested alive."

According to the statement, two AK 47 rifles, rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunitions and Nokia cell phones were recovered from them.

"A local car washing shade and a shop in the area suspected to belong to the members of the sect were destroyed by the troops," the statement said.

It added that patrol had been intensified to avoid any break down of law and order.

Nigeria: Police Recover Explosives, Ammunition From Impounded Golf Car

Over 13 types of improvised explosive Devices [IEDs], four AK 47 Guns and 30 rounds of ammunition were recovered in a Golf Car impounded by soldiers last Wednesday at a check point in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

State Police Public Relations Officer, Hassan Mohammed, who disclosed this to journalists, yesterday, said that the explosives were packaged in Turkey oil and milk tins respectively when the anti-bomb squads examined the confiscated vehicle.

He added that investigation was ongoing to fish out the fleeing culprits who tried to import the dangerous materials to the State capital so as to unleash terror on the people.

It would be recalled that last Wednesday, a Golf car loaded with locally made bombs with registration number AA158 was impounded by soldiers at a military check-point in Alkaleri Local Government of the State.

The incident was said to have occurred when occupants of the car opened the door and fled into bush as the security operatives were inspecting the boot.

Eye witnesses revealed that the soldiers wanted to open fire at the fleeing miscreants.

Weapons and ammunitions seized in Baghlan province

Officials in Afghan National Directorate for Security in northern Baghlan province following a press release announced to seize some weapons and ammunitions from Wardakha and Cheshma-e-Sher areas of this province.

The source further added, the weapons and ammunitions which were seized based on intelligence report included 2 improvised explosive device, 2 barrels of explosives, 13 rounds of RPG-7 missiles along with fake vehicle registration plates and 500 rounds of AK-47 assault rifle ammos.

Provincial intelligence officials following the press release further added, the two improvised explosive device which were planted by armed militants to target Afghan and coalition security forces were seized and defused by Afghan intelligence forces however Afghan security forces have not detained any suspect in this regard so far.

Afghan National Directorate for Security forces have seized various weapons and ammunitions caches during the past month.

Recently Afghan security forces seized at least 1 ton of explosives and ammunitions following a military operation at Jelga-ha and Khenjan districts.
