Explosion in Helmand kill and injure 3 Afghan police

According to local authorities in southern Afghanistan, at least 3 Afghan National police service members were killed and injured following an explosion in southern Helmand province on Thursday.

The officials further added, the incident took place around 10:30 am local time killing at least 2 Afghan police and injuring 1 other.

Provincial governor spokesman Daud Ahmadi confirming the report said, the incident took place after an explosive device planted in a road culvert went off at Lashkargah city.

Mr. Ahmadi further added, Afghan police forces were struggling to defuse the roadside bomb when the explosion took place.

No group including the Taliban militants have so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.

Taliban militants frequently use improvised explosive device and roadside bombs to target Afghan and coalition security forces.

3 People Killed, Dozens Wounded in Helmand Suicide Bombing (+video)

At least three people including a child were killed in a suicide car bomb blast in southern Helmand province on Thursday, local officials said.


Thirty two others including a foreign woman were wounded in the blast.
The blast occurred at 10:30 am local time near British PRT, Dawood Ahmadi, a spokesman for provincial governor told TOLOnews reporter.

Afghan security forces have arrived in the area.
The ambulances were also seen in the area carrying the victims.
Eyewitnesses said that several cars have been damaged in the blast.
Clouds of smoke was also seen rising from the site of the incident.

No group including the Taliban has claimed responsibility for the blast.

Violence recently increased in southern Helmand with insurgents carrying out attacks on Afghan police checkpoints using Improvised Explosive Devices.

Afghan security forces have taken over security responsibility of Lashkargh, the capital of Helmand from British troops in the first phase of security transition.

Britain has around 9,500 troops in Afghanistan, most of them based in Helmand.

Two policemen among 12 killed in Afghan clash

Two policemen and 12 Taliban militants, among them a rebel commander, were killed Thursday in a fierce gunfight at a check post in southern Afghanistan.

The attack took place around 4.00 p.m. in Jazi area of Helmand province.

"A group of armed militants stormed a police checkpoint in at around 04:00 local time on Thursday in Jazi area of Naw Zad district but the Afghan National Police repelled the attack," the spokesman Daud Ahmadi told Xinhua.

The clash triggered a gunfight that lasted for four hours. As a result 12 armed militants including their commander Mullah Abdul Baqi were killed.

He said the militants used small rifle and rocket propelled grenades to attack the security checkpoint, adding that two policemen were also killed and three others were injured in the fighting.

Seven Taliban killed in Afghanistan

Seven suspected Taliban militants have been killed in a special operation in Afghanistan, a government spokesman said.

A unit of the Afghan National Directorate of Security launched an operation Sunday on a Taliban hideout in Mirmandab area of Gereshk district in the southern province of Helmand, Daud Ahmadi told Xinhua.

An exchange of fire broke out shortly after the intelligence agency forces arrived at the compound, leaving seven militants dead. Four of them were later identified as Malawi Mansour, Abdul Raziq, Mullah Maluk and Shekari.

No members of the security force or civilians were injured in the raid, he said.

The Taliban were yet to make any comment.
