More schoolgirls poisoned in Sar-i-Pul

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (PAN): Dozens of Sorkhak girls’ high school students were poisoned on Sunday in the northern province of Sar-i-Pul, officials said.

The incident took place at around 11am in the Sar-i-Pul city of the province but the cause of the poisoning is not known, the education director, Abdul Ghafoor Sar-i-Puli told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Director of public health Dr. Mohammad Amin Alteem said 94 girls had been taken to the hospital.

Many students developed symptoms such as rashes and suffered dizziness, and authorities are investigating to find the cause of the incident, he said.

More than 100 students of the Imam Yahya girls’ high school were poisoned on Saturday in the province.

The public health and security officials said poisonous substance or gas sprayed in the classrooms that had affected the girls.

Around 100 school girls poisoned in northern Afghanistan

According to local authorities in northern Sar-e-Pul province, more than 100 school students were poisoned in this province and were taken to hospital for treatment purposes.

The officials further added the incident took place early Saturday morning at Hazrat Imam Zada Yahya high school and the main reason behind the poisoning of the students were unknown.

Provincial education chief Abdul Ghafoor Sar-e-Puli said an investigation has been started in this regard to find out the facts behind the incident.

This comes as several school girls were poisoned in Takhar, Bamiya and Kabul provinces of Afghanistan.

A number of suspects in this regard were recently detained by security forces in northern Takhar province, and the main motive behind the attack was to prevent Afghan families from sending their daughters to schools.

In the meantime Dr. Mohammad Haroon chief of the provincial hospital said around 118 school girls were taken to the hospital this morning who were poisoned and the health condition of majority of them are better and were sent back to their homes.

He said the health officials have not found any signs of toxicant gases, adding that the students were feeling headache, fever and nausea.

Several school girls poisoned in Bamiyan province

According to local authorities in Bamiyan province, more than 46 school students were poisoned in Karta-e-Sol school in this province.

Provincial education chief Reza Ada confirming the report said majority of the students who were poisoned today were school girls and were taken to provincial hospital for treatment.

In the meantime deputy provincial public health chief Dr. Mehr Ali Hasani said at least 116 school students were poisoned and were taken to the hospitals and the number of poisoned students are dramatically increasing.

This comes as a number of school students in Shirin Hazara School were poisoned recently in this province.

Several students, majority of them who are school girls have been poisoned in various provinces of Afghanistan during the past few months.

Afghan Intelligence officials accuse Taliban group for poisoning school students however Taliban militants deny being involved in attacking school students.
