At least 15 militants killed in Dir, Orakzai

ORAKZAI: At least six militants were killed by Pakistani forces, in an act of retaliation, at the Pak-Afghan border on Thursday, DawnNews reported.

Pakistani forces opened their fire after they were attacked by the militants from the other side of the border.

The incident took place in the mountain region of upper Dir area.

Meanwhile in Orakzai agency’s Mamuzai area, jet-bombing of the Pakistani forces killed at least nine militants and their hideouts were also demolished.

According to the sub-collector Hameed Khan, “Jet-bombing of the Pakistani security forces on suspected militant hideouts, at least nine militants were killed and six hideouts were destroyed in Mamuzai area of Orakzai.”

“Ninety two percent of Orakzai area is not under the control of the militants, ” security sources said.

18 militants killed in army operation in NW Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, May 29 (Xinhua) -- At least 18 militants were killed and several others injured in two separate operations carried out by the Pakistan army in the country's northwest tribal regions of Khyber and Orakzai on Tuesday, local media reported.

The local Urdu TV channel Dunya said that the first operation was launched on Tuesday morning when troops backed with gunship helicopters pounded at least three militants' hideouts in the Mamozai area of Orakzai Agency, a semi-autonomous tribal area in northwest Pakistan.

Altogether 14 militants were killed and several others injured during the operation. No loss of life was reported on the side of security forces.

Later, in another military operation, troops killed four militants and injured four others in the Tirah Valley area of Khyber agency, a tribal area sharing common border with Afghanistan from its northern side.

The tribal area of Pakistan is a restive zone where clashes between troops and militants take place frequently. The Pakistan army is striving hard to clear the area from the hold of militants while the militants are combating with full force to retain their influence in the area.

In this warfare hundreds of people have lost their lives and thousands became homeless.

Militant hideouts pounded in Orakzai; 21 killed

KHADEZAI – Pakistani fighter jets bombed four militant hideouts in the Khadezai and Mamozai areas of the northwestern Orakzai tribal region, near the Afghanistan border, killing 21 militants and wounding 23 military officials said.    

There was no way to independently confirm the death toll. Militants often dispute official death figures.
Orakzai is one of seven ethnic Pashtun tribal areas where the Pakistani military has carried out offensives to root out insurgent groups.

Mortar shelling kills 18 militants in upper Orakzai

PESHAWAR: At least 17 militants and a militant commander were killed in the upper Orakzai Agency as the security forces pounded militant hideouts with mortar shells on Wednesday in an area that has seen a lot of violence in recent times.

The officials claimed that six among the militants who died in the shelling were foreigners – two arabs and four Tajiks.

According to security officials, security forces fired mortar shells on the militant hideouts in Kago Kamar and Tajika areas of the agency that killed 17 militants.

Officials added that an important militant commander was killed in clashes with the security forces in the Ghundaki area.

The claims could not be independently verified as the area has been closed for journalists.

Upper Orakzai and particularly the areas of Mamozai bordering the Tirah valley of Khyber have been the hub of militancy and a route for intra-agency militant movement.

The security forces have managed to cut off the movement of militants between Kurram -North Waziristan and Orakzai facing casualties in the onslaught; however the situation in the area still remains turbulent.
