Premature blast kills 8 would-be suicide bombers in S. Afghanistan
"A group of eight suicide bombers linked to the Taliban outfit were killed by the accidental blast of their own explosive material while they were organizing terrorist attacks in Now Bahar district of Zabul province today," the statement added.
The deadly blast took place in the house of a Taliban local commander Mullah Sababullah, leaving him along with seven other Taliban fighters dead, the statement contended.
Taliban militants who are largely relying on suicide and roadside bombing have yet to make comment.

Roadside bomb hits police van in Afghanistan's Khost province, kills 3, wounds 3

"A mine planted by Taliban rebels struck a vehicle of Border Police Force in Dawamanda district at around 11:30 a.m. local time today, killing three police personnel and injuring three others," the official told Xinhua but declined to be identified.
Meantime, Governor of Dawamanda district Sayed Ahmad Khan in talks with Xinhua confirmed the blast, saying investigation was underway.
The head of a hospital in Khost provincial capital the Khost city said that three injured men had been taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

Afghan battle leaves 31 Taliban dead
"Taliban militants raided three villages in Andar district at 01:00 a.m. local time and we resisted. The gun battle lasted for six hours during which 31 rebels, including Pakistanis, Arabs and Chechens, were killed and the remaining rebels run away," commander of villagers, Latif Kamran told Xinhua.
Meanwhile, Qari Yusuf Ahmadi who claims to speak for the Taliban outfit, confirmed the conflict in talks with media via telephone from unknown location, saying that the militants have killed 10 pro-government militias, a claim rebuffed by Kamran as baseless.
The inhabitants of several villages in Andar district had made armed uprising against Taliban militants last year and since have evicted Taliban militants from several villages.

The senior leader is responsible for constructing improvised explosive devices and suicide vests for use in insurgent operations. He has also directed and coordinated attacks in Archi district resulting in the deaths of numerous Afghan National Security Force personnel.
During the operation, a group of insurgents opened fire on the security force. The security force returned fire, killing three fighters.
The security force also seized two AK-47s, one sub-machine gun, one rocket-propelled grenade launcher and eight rocket-propelled grenades as a result of the operation.

Foreign insurgents sneak into Logar province

Up to 600 Arab, Pakistani, Chechen and Uzbek fighters have infiltrated into Azra, Baraki Barak, Charkh and Kharwar districts, the deputy police chief acknowledged.
But Col. Khan Sadiq told Pajhwok Afghan News security forces, including the Afghan Local Police (ALP), were capable of dealing with the insurgent threat.
Barak-i-Barak district chief, Eng. Mohammad Rahim, said about 150 foreign rebels had entered the town. Their sole objective was harassing the people and impeding development projects, he added.
His counterpart from Charkh, Abdul Jalil, also complained of an increasing presence of Pakistani and Arab guerrillas in the area. They were trying to fuel unrest in the district, he said.
Barak-i-Barak resident Hamidullah claimed seeing foreign gunmen, who spoke different languages. The suspects freely moved in villages, he continued.
On April 21, the Taliban seized 10 foreigners, including Turkish engineers, after a NATO-contracted Mi-8 helicopter made an emergency landing in the Mangal Pass area of Azra district.
The chopper was on its way back to Kabul from southeastern Khost province. The Turks were captured along two pilots from Russia and Kyrgyzstan, as well as an Afghan.

An Afghan quick reaction force joined the fight shortly after ALP radioed the District Operations Coordination Center for reinforcements. Following the engagement, Afghan Nation Security Forces recovered five motorcycles, two PKMs with more than 1600 rounds of ammunition, two RPG launchers with 14 RPG rounds and several rifles.

Would-be bomber killed by own explosives in Kabul
The explosion took place in the Shah Saheed area in the limits of 8th police district, police spokesman Hashmatullah Stanikzai told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the attacker was fixing the suicide jacket to his body when it exploded at 7:30am, killing him on the spot and damaging the house. But no other people were hurt inside the home where the bomber was said to be a guest.
Police have launched their investigation into the incident.

Four Killed in Taliban Attack in Kabul

Taliban militants, backed by a suicide bomber, attacked a United Nations compound Friday evening and set off several explosions. In the ensuing gunbattle with security forces, at least one policeman was killed. Kabul's police chief, General Mohammad Ayub Salangi, told VOA three of the attackers also were killed. At least 10 other people were wounded.
The blasts shook a busy area of Kabul, sending a plume of smoke over the city and causing chaos.
The general said the violence began when militants attacked a house next to the U.N. mission in Afghanistan. The Taliban said the target was a compound used by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency.
This was the second major attack in Kabul in a little more than a week. On May 16, a suicide car bombing killed 15 people, including six Americans and nine Afghan civilians. Two of the Americans were soldiers.

KABUL, Afghanistan -- The International Security Assistance Force strongly condemns the suicide and direct fire attack today near a National Directorate Security-run hospital and the headquarters of the Afghan Public Protection Force today. This is also an area where Non-Governmental Organizations and hotels are located.
"The insurgents have repeatedly shown little regard for innocent civilians and the future of Afghanistan as demonstrated by attacks such as these. Their actions fly in the face of their claim that they are looking to avoid civilian casualties," said General Joseph F. Dunford, the ISAF commander.
"I express my condolences to the victims and their families in today's attacks. I condemn in the strongest sense of the word the actions of the insurgents today. The attack, which was in close proximity to a children's hospital, shows the enemy's complete lack of morals and respect for human life," Dunford said.
"I also want to commend the professionalism of the Afghan security forces who responded to the incident. Their prompt and effective action saved the lives of other innocent Afghans and members of the international community," Dunford said.

R.I.P. - Sgt. Eugene M Aguon, Spc. Dwayne W. Flores
The Department of Defense announced today the death of two soldiers who were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
They died May 16, in Kabul, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked their unit with a vehicle borne improvised explosive device. They were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 294th Infantry Regiment, 29th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Fort Juan Muna, Guam.
Killed were:
Sgt. Eugene M Aguon, 23, of Mangilao, Guam, and
Spc. Dwayne W. Flores, 22, of Sinajana, Guam.

In all, the explosion claimed 15 lives, 6 of them Americans, including Flores and Aguon. The other 4 Americans killed were civilian contractors.
Guam Governor Eddie Calvo confirmed the deaths in a message to the media Saturday evening declaring a "State of Mourning" on Guam for the deaths of Flores and Aguon.
In his statement the Governor said:
“Christine and I, Ray and Notch ask for the prayers of every Guamanian for the families and friends of Sgt. Eugene M. Aguon, and Specialist Dwayne W. Flores. There are no words to describe the overwhelming grief of our island on this tragic day. May the Lord be with their parents and loved ones to give them strength,” Governor Calvo said.
Aguon and Flores were part of the nearly 600 Guam guardsmen in the 1st Battalion, 294th Infantry Regiment. They left island on March 2 for a month of pre-deployment training at Camp Shelby in Mississippi. They arrived in Afghanistan in the first weeks of April.
The 23 year old Aguon is from Mangilao. He was a graduate of George Washington High School. Flores is from Sinajana.
Mass for Dwayne Flores will be said nightly at the Hagatna Cathedral Chapel from 6pm Monday to Saturday and from 7pm on Sunday.

This morning in Kabul, a suicide bomber in an explosives-packed
vehicle blew up a two-car American military convoy, killing at least 15
people. Six Americans died in the attack along with nine Afghan
civilians, including two children. The attack also injured 42 others, of
whom 39 were Afghan civilians.
The attack took place during morning rush hour near the diplomatic area of the Afghan capital, according to Dawn.
The International Security Assistance Force issued a press release which stated that "[t]wo International Security Assistance Force service members and four ISAF contracted civilians died following an improvised explosive device attack in Kabul, Afghanistan today." Afghan and ISAF officials confirmed that the ISAF members killed in the attack were American.
Today's attack, which damaged a number of residences and left some civilians so badly burnt they were unrecognizable, is the worst terror attack in Kabul since March, when a suicide bomber killed nine Afghans during a visit by US Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel.
Pajhwok Afghan News reported that the powerful blast in a Kabul residential area destroyed dozens of houses and 30 vehicles, including two belonging to foreigners.
The National Directorate of Security, Afghanistan's intelligence agency, has stated that the NDS thwarts a large number of attacks on the capital every week, however.
The attack was claimed by the Hizb-i-Islami Gulbuddin, whose spokesman Haroon Zarghoun told Reuters that the group had targeted American military advisers. Several school girls poisoned in capital Kabul
A school teacher in Sultan Razia high school said the incident took place after the students entered to their classrooms which was sprayed with the toxic material.
According to the school teacher the students were immediately taken to the hospital for treatment purposes using three ambulances.
In the meantime Afghan education ministry officials confirmed the report and said around 20 school girls have been taken to the hospital so far.
Sultan Razia high school is located in the 7th district of Kabul city in Chel Situn area where hundreds of students are attending their studies on daily basis.
This comes as over 60 school girls were poisoned due to unknown reasons in the capital city of northeastern Takhar province last month.
The incident took place in Bibi Maryam girls high school early Sunday morning on 19 of April last month, and the students were taken to hospital for treatment purposes.
Several dozen of gas attacks against girl schools have been reported across Afghanistan over the past couple of years.
No group or individual has claimed the responsibility for the incidents so far. Radical Islamic groups and anti-government militants had in the past been blamed for such gas attacks.

Seven civilians killed in cargo plane crash at Afghan air base (VIDEO)
The cause of the crash has not been determined, Capt. Dan Einert, a spokesman for the International Security Assistance Force, told The Times Tuesday morning. Einert said there was no indication of enemy activity in the area at the time of the crash.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the crash, but the insurgent group often issues false claims.
Einert did not provide information on the nationalities of the civilian crew members killed aboard the plane, which he said was leased by National Air Cargo, with U.S. headquarters in Orchard Park, N.Y.
A brief statement on the company's website confirmed the crash and gave the plane's aircraft identification number as 949CA and the flight number as NCR102. It provided no other information.
Coalition forces rely heavily on contracted aircraft to haul troops and supplies in a nation where roadside bombs and insurgent attacks make traveling by road dangerous.
Zamaray Khan, the local district police chief, said the plane crashed as it was taking off but provided no other details. Bagram is about an hour's drive north of the capital, Kabul, and is one of the two largest air bases serving coalition forces in Afghanistan.

Afghans protest against US special forces in Baghlan province
Doshi district chief Shamsuddin Sarhadi said hundreds of local residents protested against the detention of Mawlavi Baaz Mohammad on Tuesday.
Mr. Sarhadi further added that protesters have also blocked Kabul-Baghlan highway.
In the meantime the protesters warned that they will launch a widespread demonstration if US special forces does not free Mawlavi Baaz Mohammad.
The Mullah Imam has reportedly been arrested for having connections with the militants in this province however the protesters denied his link with any insurgent groups.
Local officials are also saying that Mawlavi Baaz Mohammad had close cooperation with the government.
This comes as hundreds of Wardak residents protested against the US special force over military operations and urged them to leave the province.

The officials further added that the helicopter belongs to Turkish military forces.
Deputy provincial governor Mohammad Hashim Faizi confirmed the report and said the helicopter made emergency landing due to bad weather conditions.
However he said that there are fears that crew have been taken by Taliban militants.
He said the exact number of personnel on board were not clear however it seems that Taliban militants have abducted at least six Turkish engineers.
In the meantime head of the provincial council Abdul Wali Wakil said the helicopter was transporting six Turkish engineers, two engineers from Uzbekistan along with an Afghan engineer and an Afghan national army soldier to Bagram airfield.
He said Taliban militants have taken the hostages to Dara-e-Tang area which is fully under the control of the Taliban group.

Afghan Taliban captures nine foreigners after their helicopter makes emergency landing

Kabul: Taliban insurgents have seized nine people from a civilian helicopter which made an emergency landing in eastern Afghanistan, officials said Monday.
The Turkish civilian helicopter made an emergency landing on Sunday evening, said Rais Khan Sadeq, deputy police chief of Logar province south of Kabul.
"Security forces found the helicopter but the nine people were not in it. They are taken by the Taliban. They are Turkish nationals and are nine people including the crew," Sadeq told AFP.
Hamidullah Hamid, governor of Azr district where the helicopter came down, also said nine Turks on board had been seized by the Taliban.
Hamid said the aircraft, which had come from the eastern city of Khost and was heading for Kabul, belonged to a Turkish company which has a big project in Khost but gave no details.
The International Security Assistance Force in Kabul said the force assisted a search by Afghan authorities for a helicopter but gave no details.
A spokesman said it was a civilian aircraft and not part of ISAF.

3 civilians killed in E. Afghan suicide bombing

"The bombing took place in the main bazaar in Jani Khil district at around 11:30 a.m. (local time) Sunday," spokesman for provincial government, Mukhlis Afghan, told Xinhua.
The injured included five civilians and two Afghan National Police members, Afghan added.
The obvious target of the bombing was not clear at this span of time.
However, Hasanullah Hayat, former administrative chief of the district, was among the killed, the official said.
No group has claimed the responsibility for the attack in the province 155 km south of capital Kabul.
In a separate development, six Taliban insurgents were killed overnight when an Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) that they were placing in a road went off prematurely in Kharwar district in eastern Logar province 60 km south of Kabul, a senior police official in the province told Xinhua earlier Sunday.
The Taliban-led insurgency and conflicts claimed the lives of more than 2,800 Afghan security forces and 400 foreign soldiers while leaving 2,754 civilians dead last year in the war-hit central Asian state.
