Local police commander dies in Panjwai blast

KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): A local police commander was killed and two of his bodyguards suffered shrapnel injuries when a roadside bomb ripped through their vehicle in the Panjwai district of southern Kandahar province, an official said on Wednesday.  

Once served as a Taliban commander, Mullah Zainullah, who joined the government-initiated peace process a year ago, was travelling in the Salehan area on Tuesday along with some of his bodyguards when came under attack, district chief Haji Fazal Mohammad told Pajhwok Afghan News. He travelled to attend the wedding of his nephew, the official said. 

Known as Mullah Zaino, the deceased spearheaded a group of the NATO-backed Local Police Force in the Sparwan area.

The Taliban have claimed responsibility for the bomb attack, with the group spokesman Qari Yousaf Ahmadi saying Zainullah was among four others killed and as many of his bodyguards were wounded in the blast.

Insider Attack: Afghan police kill commander in Kandahar

According to local authorities in southern Kandahar province of Afghanistan, a local police officer opened fire on his commander and killed him.

The officials further added the incident took place late Tuesday night in Panjwai district.

Provincail governor spokesman Javid Faisal confirming the report said the assailant local police officer poisoned his comrades and then opened fire on his commander.

He said the assailant local police officer managed to flee the area and took some weapons with him.

No group including the Taliban militants has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.

The threat of insider attacks has become so serious that international soldiers working alongside Afghan security forces are often looked over by so-called guardian angel troops on duty to provide protection.

Foreign troops are not the only targets of such attacks, and the number of Afghan deaths in such incidents is estimated to be at least double the number of ISAF soldiers and trainers killed.

A gunman believed to be an Afghan soldier killed a British service member earlier this month, when he opened fire on ISAF and Afghan soldiers, according to the UK Ministry of Defence.

The “insider” attack occurred on a patrol base in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand province. The victim was part of an engineer’s regiment, MoD spokesman Tom Bennett said in a statement. Six other ISAF soldiers were wounded in the attack, another MoD spokesman said.

Taliban missile attack on NATO base in Kandahar

According to local authorities in southern Kandahar province of Afghanistan, Taliban militants attacked a NATO military base in this province.

The officials further added a heavy explosion took place after ammunitions depot caught fire as a result of the rocket attack.

Panjwai district Fazal Ishaq confirming the report said the incident took place in Zangiabad village in Panjwai district.

He said the fire as a result of the explosion in ammunitions depot continued for several hours however he did not disclose further information regarding the casualties as a result of the incident.

In the meantime International Security Assistance Force following a statement announced that a NATO service member was killed following an explosion in NATO camp in southern Afghanistan.

7 Mine Planters Killed In Kandahar

Kandahar (BNA)  - Security in charges of Kandahar said that in two air attack of Afghan and ISAF forces, 7 mine planters of Taliban were killed.

The 205 army crops press office of Kandahar said to BNA, these militias were killed in Meyaneshen and Panjwai districts. 

The combined forces in an operation under the title of “Tasmem Qate” discovered and neutralized 20
mines in Zabul and Kandahar province.

The Tasmem Qate operation started since several months back and continues till now in the southern provinces and 11000 local and foreign soldiers were attended.

Taliban behead 12 years old Afghan boy in Kandahar

According to Afghan government officials, an Afghan boy was beheaded by Taliban militants in southern Kandahar province and another Afghan girl was beheaded in eastern Kapisa province of Afghanistan.

Kandahar provincial governor spokesman Jawid Faisal confirming the report said Taliban militants beheaded the Afghan boy to avenge from his brother who is serving in Afghan national police forces.

Mr. Faisal further added the Afghan boy was only 12 years old and was a resident of Zherai district, and was beheaded by Taliban militants while he was on his way to Panjwai district.

He said Taliban militants left the beheaded body of the Afghan boy near the roadside.

This comes as Taliban militants earlier beheaded a 14 years old Afghan boy in Zherai district over espionage charges to Afghan government, provincial governor spokesman Jawid Faisal said.

In the meantime Abdul Hakim Akhundzada district chief for Tagab in eastern Kapisa province said they have founded a beheaded body of a 7 years old Afghan girl from a garden whose legs were also amputed.

Mr. Akhundzada said the girl was killed last evening in Jalu Khel village and it is yet not clear who committed the crime.

He said no one has complained to security forces regarding the murder of the girl.

3 NATO service members injured in Kandahar province

According to local authorities in southern Kandahar province at least 3 NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) service members were wounded in this province.

The officials further added the incident took place around 7:30 am local time at Panjwai district of southern Kandahar province after a convoy of the International coalition security forces struck with an improvised explosive device.

Panjwai district chief Haji Fazal Mohammad confirming the report said at least 3 NATO troops were injured following the incident.

In the meantime Taliban militants group claimed responsibility behind the incident and said at least 5 NATO troops were killed following the explosion.

International Security Assistance Force officials yet to comment regarding the reports.

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, April 6 (Xinhua) -- Seven civilians were killed and three others injured Friday morning in an oil truck explosion in southern Afghan province of Kandahar, police said.

"An oil tanker exploded at around 8:00 a.m. local time Friday along a main road in Khuli Manda area of Panjwai district and the blast led a minibus passing by the area to catch fire," police chief of the district Sardar Mohammad told Xinhua.

He said seven passenger of the minibus including two women were killed and three others injured in the incident.

It was not immediately clear how the truck caught fire and exploded but police has initiated an investigation into the incident, Sardar added.

However, a witness near the site told Xinhua that the truck was attacked by suspected Taliban insurgent fighters.

4 militants killed, 2 detained in Kandahar province

According to local authorities in southern Kandahar province at least 4 insurgents were killed and 2 others were detained following military operations by Afghan security forces in this province.

The officials further added the militants were killed and detained at Shahwalikot and panjwai districts of southern Kandahar province.

Provincial governor media office following a press release said, Afghan security forces killed at least 2 armed insurgents following a military operation at Panjwai district on Wednesday evening. The two insurgents were plotting and carrying out insurgency activities against the Afghan security forces in the area.

The source further added, Afghan security forces conducted another operation at Shahwalikot district on Wednesday night, where a mine planter was killed along with a Taliban fighter.

The operations were conducted at Parian and Yatiman areas late Wednesday night where Afghan security forces also detained 2 insurgents along with some weapons and explosives, provincial media office officials added.

Anti-government armed militant groups yet to comment regarding the operations.

Karzai's Kandahar Delegation Attacked; Protestors Burn Obama Effigy

Gunmen opened fire on the Afghan President's delegation sent to investigate the Kandahar killings as the group left a mosque in the Panjwai district on Tuesday morning, according to Afghan officials.

No one from the delegation - which included two of Karzai's brothers - was hurt; however a male civilian who was outside the mosque was shot in the leg, Abud Rahim Ayoubi, a member of Afghan parliament from Kandahar told TOLOnews.

The delegation includes Karzai's brothers, Shah Wali Karzai and Qayuom Karzai, Tooryalai Wisa, the governor of Kandahar, and Asadullah Halid, Minister of Tribal and Border Affairs.

Shah Wali Karzai is head of the Karz district in Kandahar, and Qayoum Karzai is a member of the Kandahar provincial council.

The delegation was inside a mosque in the Panjwai district meeting with locals about the shooting of 16 civilians by a US soldier on Sunday.

The gunmen - said to be "several" - fled immediately after firing the shots. None of them have been apprehended and no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Meanwhile, hundreds of university students in eastern Afghanistan turned out for a demonstration on Tuesday against the Kandahar killings.

Students burned a makeshift effigy which they said represented US President Barack Obama while chanting slogans such as "Death to America", according to TOLOnews reporter who was in the area.

Nangahar provincial spokesman Ahmad Zia Abdulzai confirmed the reports.

Although the protest held up traffic on the Kabul-Jalalabad highway for a few hours, there were no reports of violence.

Afghan security personnel were present at the demonstration which lasted from around 8am until the students dispersed by 12pm.

Afghan Members of Parliament also protested the Kandahar shooting for a second day in Kabul by walking out of Tuesday's sitting session early.

MPs suspended the House of Representative sitting on Monday after calling for those responsible for Sunday's attack on Afghan civilians to be tried under Afghan law.

Bomb was in a small Suzuki car and hit the district governor's car on the road causing the detonation.
Kandahar Panjwai governor was en route to Kandahar city when the Suzuki filled with explosive approached the his vehicle and detonated

An official at the Kandahar central hospital said 13 wounded policemen had also been brought for treatment.
