KABUL, Afghanistan – During a security operation, Mubariz Jaan, a Taliban leader, was killed by an Afghan and coalition security force in Andar district, Ghazni province, Wednesday.

Mubariz Jaan was responsible for gathering intelligence and directing attacks against local Afghan civilians and government officials. Prior to his death, Mubariz Jaan was coordinating attacks against Afghan Local Police in the province.

An Afghan and coalition security force arrested a Taliban leader during a security operation in Pul-e Khumri district, Baghlan province, Wednesday. The leader was responsible for financing improvised explosive devices, weapons and ammunition for insurgent attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. Prior to his detention, he was facilitating the movement of IEDs and suicide bombers for attacks in the province. During the operation, the security force also positively identified an individual engaged in threatening activity and killed him.

South

A Taliban leader in Shah Wali Kot district, Kandahar province was arrested by an Afghan and coalition security force today. The leader was responsible for the planning and execution of vehicle-borne IED and in-ground IED attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He oversaw the transfer and delivery of IEDs to insurgents operating throughout the district.

East

An Afghan and coalition force killed Taliban leader, Abdullah, along with four additional insurgents, during a security operation in Hisarak district, Nangarhar province, Wednesday. Abdullah was responsible for directing and participating in attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. Prior to his death, Abdullah was reporting the movement of Afghan and coalition forces to leaders in the province.

During a security operation in search of a Haqqani facilitator in Khost district, Khost province, three insurgents were arrested by an Afghan and coalition force today. The facilitator coordinates the movement and transfer of weapons, explosives and IED components to insurgents within the district.

A Taliban commander has been killed in Afghanistan.

An Afghan-led security force, supported by coalition troops, shot dead Fayez Jan and another insurgent during an operation in Daman district, Kandahar province, today.

The Ministry of Defence said that as the coalition troops approached Jan's location, they were attacked with small-arms fire and shot back.

Jan constructed, distributed and directed the placement of improvised explosive devices throughout Daman and Shah Wali Kot districts.

At the time of his death he was planning to launch an IED attack against Afghan and coalition convoys in the area, the MoD said.

In another operation, a Taliban leader, said to be an expert in homemade bombs and who co-ordinated insurgents throughout the region, was captured with two other suspected fighters.

And "multiple insurgents were killed" during a helicopter-led operation targeting the movements of suspected anti-Afghan forces in Reg-e Khan Neshin district, Helmand province, the MoD said.

The Afghan National Security Force stopped a suspicious vehicle in the area, searched it and found 1,606 pounds (730 kilograms) of dry opium and 3,500 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.

One of the detainees led the soldiers to another vehicle hidden in the desert.

Troops found a rocket propelled grenade launcher, four RPG anti-tank rounds, four machine guns and five hand grenades.

Also inside were several IED components and 440 pounds (200kg) of homemade explosives.

May 05., 2012. - ISAF Joint Command Morning Operational Update

KABUL, Afghanistan - During an Afghan and coalition security operation in Sayyidabad district, Wardak province, yesterday, a Taliban commander was observed providing weapons and ammunition to insurgents.

He was known to be involved in recruiting insurgents, acquiring weapons and explosives, and planning attacks throughout the region.

After ensuring no civilians were in the vicinity of the target and in defense of others, the security force called for an airstrike. A follow-on assessment of the area after the strike determined no civilians were harmed and no civilian property was damaged. The Taliban leader and multiple insurgents were killed as a result of the precision airstrike.

Security forces detained multiple additional insurgents and seized a recoilless rifle, a heavy machine gun, multiple AK-47s, grenades, and mortar rounds.

An Afghan and coalition security force conducted an operation to capture a Taliban leader in Almar district, Faryab province, today. The Taliban leader organizes roadside bombings and other attacks against Afghan and coalition forces throughout the district. He also serves as a Taliban judge and attempts to impose Taliban law on the civilians in the area. During the operation, multiple insurgents opened fired on the combined force with multiple weapons including grenades and a heavy machine gun as the security force approached the leader’s suspected location. Responding to the immediate threat, the Afghan and coalition troops returned fire and after ensuring no civilians were in the area, called in a precision air strike. A follow-on assessment of the area after the strike determined that the five insurgents were killed and no civilians were harmed. The security force also detained several insurgents and recovered multiple AK-47s, RPGs, a heavy machine gun and explosive device components.

In Baghlan-e Jadid district, Baghlan province, an Afghan-led security force captured a Taliban leader during an operation today. The leader coordinated roadside bombings and other attacks against Afghan and coalition security forces. He also supplied weapons, ammunition and equipment to insurgents. The Security Force seized multiple weapons and ammunition. The security force fired no shots and damaged no civilian property as a result of this operation.

South

In Khash Rod district, Nimroz province, a combined Afghan and coalition security force discovered a drug cache during a routine patrol, yesterday. The cache consisted of 185 pounds (85 kilograms) of wet opium, which the security force destroyed on-site.

An Afghan and coalition security force captured a senior Taliban leader during an operation in Khash Rod district, Nimroz province, today. The leader was directly involved in the planning and coordination of roadside bombings, suicide bombings, and other attacks against Afghan and coalition security forces in central Helmand. The security force fired no shots and damaged no civilian property as a result of this operation.

In Shah Wali Kot district, Kandahar province, an Afghan and coalition security force conducted an operation to capture a Taliban facilitator today. The facilitator provides weapons to insurgents for attacks against Afghan and coalition security forces in Daman and Arghistan districts. The insurgents fired on the security force as they approached the facilitator’s suspected location. Responding to the immediate threat, the security force returned fire and called in a precision air strike killing three insurgents. No civilians were injured and no civilian property was damaged. The security force also detained one insurgent and seized several weapons as a result of this operation.

East

In Andar district, Ghazni province, an Afghan and coalition security force captured a Taliban leader during an operation today. The leader coordinated roadside bombings, suicide attacks and other operations against Afghan officials, Afghan security forces and coalition troops in the district. The security force also detained four additional insurgents as a result of the operation.

An Afghan and coalition security force conducted an operation to capture a Taliban leader in Zurmat district, Paktiya province, today. The leader organizes roadside bombings, suicide attacks and other operations against Afghan and coalition security forces in Gardez district. The security force detained two suspected insurgents as a result of this operation.

Mar.24., 2012. - ISAF Joint Command Morning Operational Update

KABUL, Afghanistan (Mar. 24) — An Afghan National Security Forces Crisis Response Unit conducted an operation in Surobi district, Kabul province, yesterday.
 
Afghan forces recovered a number of explosive devices, components and weapons to include: two mortar fuzes, IED-detonators, rocket propellants, various IED components and small arms. The material was confiscated by ANSF for further investigation. During the operation, the CRU positively identified multiple armed insurgents displaying hostile intent. Responding to the immediate threat, the security force engaged and killed the insurgents.
 
In other ISAF news throughout Afghanistan: 
North 
An Afghan and coalition security force captured a Taliban leader during an operation in Archi district, Kunduz province, today. The leader directed roadside bomb attacks against Afghan and coalition troops throughout the district. The security force detained an additional suspect and destroyed several grenades and fuses. No shots were fired and no property was damaged during the operation. 
South 
In Nahr-e Saraj district, Helmand province, an Afghan and coalition security force captured a Taliban leader during an operation today. The leader directed attacks against Afghan security forces and civilians in the Nahr-e Saraj and Nad ‘Ali districts. No shots were fired and no property was damaged during the operation.An Afghan and coalition security force conducted an operation in search of a Taliban facilitator in Shah Wali Kot district, Kandahar province, today. The facilitator supplies weapons and money to insurgents throughout the Shah Wali Kot and Khakrez districts.

He also coordinates suicide bombers for attacks against Afghan and coalition security forces. The security force detained two suspected insurgents during the operation.
