DOD Identifies Army Casualties
             The Department of Defense announced today the deaths of two soldiers who were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

             They died Aug. 1, in Paktika province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when they encountered an enemy improvised explosive device.  These soldiers were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan.

             Killed were:

                         1st Lt. Todd W. Lambka, 25, of Fraser, Mich., and

                         Pfc. Jesus J. Lopez, 22, of San Bernardino, Calif.

1st Lt. Todd W. Lambka, age 25, of Fraser, Michigan, died on August 1, 2012, in Paktika province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when he encountered an enemy improvised explosive device.

He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas.

Todd attended Robbinsonville High School. High school officials describe him as everything you would want in a young man and everything that you would want your son to be.

He graduated from West Point in 2010.

Friends describe Todd as having a sterling character and being driven to succeed.

Family describe him as a big kid who was extremely mature for his age.

Todd is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his father, Brian; his twin brother, Jordan (who is also serving in Afghanistan); and his fiancee. Todd was predeceased by his mother.

Pfc. Jesus J. Lopez, age 22, of San Bernardino, California, died on August 1, 2012, in Paktika province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when he encountered an enemy improvised explosive device.

            May was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan.

FORT RILEY  – Army officials say a Fort Riley soldier from southeast Kansas has died in Afghanistan.

The 1st Infantry Division said in a release Tuesday that 26-year-old Sgt. Erik May of Independence died July 14 at a medical facility in eastern Afghanistan. The cause of his death is under investigation.

May joined the Army in September 2007 and was assigned to Fort Riley in February 2009. He was on his second deployment when he died. May also served in Iraq in 2009.

His awards include an Army Commendation Medal, an Army Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghan Campaign Medal with one campaign star, and the Iraq Campaign Medal with one campaign star.

Kansas Senator Jerry Moran issued the following statement today on the death of U.S. Army Sergeant Erik N. May.

“All Americans will forever be indebted to Sergeant May for his service on our behalf,” Sen. Moran said. “My deepest sympathies go out to his family, and I ask all Kansans to join me in remembering his family and friends in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”

             Capt. Michael C. Braden, 31, of Lock Haven, Pa., died April 18 in Bagram, Afghanistan.  He was assigned to the Division Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan.

FORT RILEY, Kan. – A Fort Riley Soldier has died in Afghanistan.

Captain Michael Braden, 31, was pronounced dead at a medical facility on Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan, after being found unresponsive in his living quarters Wednesday morning. The cause of death is under investigation.

Braden was a signal officer assigned to the 1st Infantry Division Headquarters which is currently deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. This was Braden’s second deployment with the division. In 2010, he deployed for a yearlong tour to Basra, Iraq. He also deployed to Qatar for five months in 2005.

Braden, a Pennsylvania native, graduated from Slippery Rock University and received his Army commission in May 2003. He was assigned to Fort Riley in December 2008.

Braden’s awards include a Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal and the Army Achievement Medal.

DOD Identifies Army Casualty

            The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

            Sgt. Jamie D. Jarboe, 27, of Frankfort, Ind., died March 21 in Topeka, Kan., from wounds suffered on April 10, 2011 in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, when enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire.  He was assigned to the 4th Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan.
