KABUL, Afghanistan (Jan. 18) — A combined Afghan and coalition security force captured a Taliban leader during an operation in Panjwa’i district, Kandahar province, today. The leader conducted direct-fire and roadside bomb attacks against Afghan forces throughout Zhari district. Multiple suspected insurgents were detained during the operation.

The leader constructs improvised explosive devices and procures weapons for insurgents. The security force detained two suspected insurgents during the operation.
East
An Afghan led and coalition supported security force conducted an operation in search of a Haqqani Network leader in Sabari district, Khost province, today. The leader procures weapons, ammunition and bomb making materials. He is also known to plant explosives throughout Bak and Sabari districts. Several suspected insurgents were detained during the operation.
A combined Afghan and coalition security force conducted an operation in search of a Haqqani Network leader in Nerkh district, Wardak province, today. The leader plans bomb attacks and coordinates insurgent fighters through the province. The security force seized multiple firearms and detained three suspected insurgents during the operation.
In Khugyani district, Nangarhar province, a combined Afghan and coalition security force conducted an operation in search of a Taliban facilitator today. The facilitator coordinates attacks and distributes weapons to insurgent fighters throughout Nangarhar province. The security force seized multiple weapons, ammunition, bomb-making materials and Afghan army uniforms during the operation. Two suspected insurgents were also detained.
