Jan.28., 2012. - ISAF Joint Command Evening Operational Update

KABUL, Afghanistan – A combined Afghan and coalition security force captured a Taliban commander during an operation in Nad-e Ali district, Helmand province, Thursday.

The Taliban commander was responsible for supplying weapons, explosives and directing insurgent fighters in this area.

During the operation several insurgents were also detained by Afghan security forces for further questioning and processing.

No civilians were harmed during the operation.

A combined Afghan and coalition security force discovered a drug cache during a patrol in Panjwa‘i district, Kandahar province, today. The cache consisted of approximately 11,000 pounds (5,000 kilograms) of marijuana. Security forces destroyed all drugs on site without incident.

A combined Afghan and coalition security force captured a Taliban commander and facilitator during an operation in Saraj district, Helmand province, yesterday. The Taliban commander is suspected of operating an insurgent cell in Upper Gereshk Valley and for planning roadside bomb attacks in Helmand province. During the operation the security force seized a quantity of improvised explosive device components. The insurgent was detained by Afghan security forces for further questioning and processing, the IED components were safely destroyed on site. No civilians were harmed during the operation.
