Nigerian army kills 12 suspected Islamic militants

MAIDUGRI, Nigeria, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- Nigerian army killed 12 suspected Boko Haram members after a gun battle in the early hours of Monday in the restive city of Maidugri in northeast Nigeria, according to a statement issued on Monday.

The spokesman of the Joint Task Force on Operation Restore Order (JTF) in the state Hassan Ifijeh said in the statement that two JTF members also sustained injuries during the battle with the Islamic fundamentalists.

Several suspected militants were also arrested, it said.
