July 06., 2012. - ISAF Joint Command Morning Operational Update

KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan and coalition forces confirmed today that the Lashkar-e-Taiba insurgent leader Ammar was killed during an airstrike in Watahpur district, Kunar province, June 29.

Ammar, managed a network of insurgents and directed attacks against Afghan and coalition forces throughout the province.

The precision airstrike that killed Ammar also killed the LeT leader Khatab Shafiq and several other armed insurgents.

A follow-on assessment confirmed the airstrike had not injured any civilians and had not damaged any civilian property.

South

An Afghan and coalition security force conducted an operation in search of a Taliban improvised explosive device expert in Ghorak district, Kandahar province, today. The expert constructs improvised explosive devices and supplies them to Taliban leaders throughout the region for use in attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. The security force detained multiple suspected insurgents as a result of this operation.

East

In Terayzai district, Khost province, an Afghan and coalition security force conducted a search operation for a Haqqani leader today. The Haqqani leader plans and coordinates attacks against the Afghan government throughout the province. The security force detained several suspected insurgents and seized one firearm and multiple grenades during the operation.

An Afghan and coalition security force conducted an operation in search of a Taliban bomb maker in Khugyani district, Nangarhar province, today. The Taliban bomb maker plans and coordinates attacks against Afghan and coalition forces throughout the region. The security force detained two suspected insurgents as a result of this operation.
