KABUL, Afghanistan – An Afghan and coalition security force conducted an operation in search of an al-Qaida-associated insurgent leader in Gelan district, Ghazni province, today.
The leader is responsible for planning insurgent attacks throughout the province.
During the operation, two insurgents were killed in a precision airstrike conducted by coalition forces. After the strike, the security force conducted a follow-on assessment of the area and seized several mortar rounds and explosive materials. They also confirmed no civilians had been injured.

An Afghan and coalition security force conducted an operation to arrest a Taliban leader in Musa Qal’ah district, Helmand province, today. The leader provides supplies to insurgents throughout northern Helmand, and conducts attacks against Afghan and coalition forces throughout the district. Numerous suspected insurgents were detained during the operation.
A coalition security force discovered a large cache of drugs while conducting a counter narcotics operation in Deh Rawud district, Uruzgan province, yesterday. During the operation, the security force seized 40,000 kilograms (18,181 pounds) of hashish seed and 425 kilograms (193 pounds) of processed hashish. The security force destroyed the seeds and drugs.

In Khugyani district, Nangarhar province, an Afghan and coalition security force detained two suspected insurgents during an operation to arrest a Taliban explosives expert today. The explosives expert manufactures and supplies insurgents with improvised explosive devices that are used to attack Afghan and coalition forces throughout eastern Afghanistan.
