KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan and coalition officials confirmed today that one of the insurgents killed during an operation in Jani Khel district, Paktiya province, Saturday, was the Haqqani leader Abdullah.
Abdullah, also known as Tufan, was directly involved in the planning and execution of the June 20 suicide attack in the Khost capital that killed more than a dozen Afghan civilians.

An Afghan and coalition security force detained multiple suspected insurgents during an operation to arrest a Taliban leader in Muqer district, Ghazni province, today. During the operation, insurgents maneuvered on the Afghan and coalition forces. The security force engaged the attackers with a precision airstrike killing several of them. After the strike the security force conducted a follow-on assessment and confirmed no civilians had been injured.
