KABUL (PAN): The Pakistani Taliban on Saturday threatened to assassinate former military dictator Gen. Pervez Musharraf on his return home from exile.
A spokesman for the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) told Dawn newspaper that the organisation had set up squads of suicide bombers and snipers to kill the retired general.
Ehsanullah Ehsan said: “Suicide bombers are being trained and assigned to assassinate him.” Adnan Rasheed, who took part in a botched life attempt on Musharraf, has been tasked with training the suicide squads.
A former technician of the Pakistan Air Force, Rasheed was awarded the death penalty by a military court for masterminding the December 2003 attack. However, he managed to flee the Bannu jail on April 15, 2012.
After being granted pre-arrest bail by three provincial courts, Musharraf is scheduled to return to Pakistan on Sunday from Dubai. He intends to take part in the parliamentary elections slated for May 11.
According to Reuters, Rasheed said in a video: "The mujahideen of Islam have prepared a special squad to send Musharraf to hell. There are suicide bombers, snipers, a special assault unit and a close combat team."
