Taliban-designated district chief among 7 killed

MAIMANA (PAN): A Taliban-designated district chief, his three security guards and a policeman were killed during a clash in northern Faryab province, officials said on Thursday.
Identified as Mullah Khairullah, the Taliban chief for Qarghan district, was killed during a fight with border police in the Quram Qul district late on Wednesday, the 209th Shaheen Military Corps spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Sultan Sanjer, the Andkhoi district head, said that a policeman was also killed in the gunbattle, which left another policeman and four rebels injured.

With the Taliban yet to comment on the incident, their spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi claimed that two policemen were killed in a militant attack on a logistic convoy of Afghan security personnel in the district.

Meanwhile, Pahlawan Shamsullah, a former Junbish-i-Milli commander, and his bodyguard were shot dead by unidentified motorcyclist in the Garzewan district of the province.

Abdul Razeq Kakar, the district chief, said that the victim was on his way home when he was ambushed by the gunmen in Jarqala area.
