KABUL, Afghanistan (June 17, 2012) — An Afghan and coalition security force detained one of the senior Taliban leaders for Spin Boldak district, Kandahar province, in Nad ‘Ali district, Helmand province, today.
The leader controlled several insurgent cells throughout southern Afghanistan and coordinated the construction and use of home-made explosives and improvised explosive devices for attacks against coalition and Afghan forces.
During the operation the Afghan and coalition security force also detained one suspected insurgent.

An Afghan and coalition security force conducted an operation to detain a Haqqani leader in Jani Khel district, Paktiya province, yesterday. The leader is responsible for supplying, coordinating and directing attacks against Afghan and coalition troops throughout Jani Khel and Tsamkani districts. The security force detained several suspected insurgents, and seized ammunition and multiple assault rifles as a result of the operation.
