Sep. 25., 2012. - RC-East operational update

BAGRAM, Afghanistan - Afghan and coalition forces killed five insurgents, detained one, located two weapons caches and cleared seven improvised explosive devices during operations in eastern Afghanistan throughout the past 24 hours, Sept. 24.

Ghazni province
Afghan National Security Forces and coalition forces discovered a weapons cache in Ghazni district. The cache contained artillery shells and mortar rounds.

Khowst province
Afghan National Army soldiers found and safely cleared an IED in Sabari district.

Afghan National Security Forces killed an insurgent during an engagement in Tanai district.

Laghman province
Afghan Local Police killed three insurgents and wounded one during an engagement in Mehtar Lam district. The wounded received medical care and was transferred to a base for questioning.

Logar province
Afghan National Security Forces and coalition forces discovered a weapons cache in Muhammad Aghah district. The cache contained a cell phone, 120 pounds of ammonium nitrate, 30 blasting caps and 6,561 feet of command wire.

Afghan National Security Forces and coalition forces found and safely cleared two IEDs in Charkh district.

Nangarhar province
Afghan National Security Forces found and safely cleared two IEDs, one in Bati Kot district and one in Jalalabad district.

Paktika province
Afghan National Security Forces and coalition forces found and safely cleared two IEDs, one in Omnah district and one in Yosuf Khel district.

Afghan National Security Forces and coalition forces killed an insurgent during an engagement in Bermal district.

Operations in RC-East are still ongoing.
