DOD Identifies Army Casualty
The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
Sgt. Tristan M. Wade, 23, of Indianapolis, Ind., died March 22 in Qarah Bagh District, Ghazni Province, Afghanistan, when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 573rd Clearance Company, 2nd Engineer Battalion, White Sands Missile Range, N.M.

"Our hearts are collectively broken because we lost one of our own," said Monte Marlin, chief of public affairs at White Sands. "Our job right now is to support this soldier's family, other soldiers and families at White Sands."
The 573rd Clearance Co. is part of the 2nd Engineer Battalion at WSMR. About 130 soldiers in the company were sent to Afghanistan in early July and its nine-month deployment is scheduled to end in about a month.
Three of the battalion's companies, the 573rd Clearance Co., the 595th Sapper Co., and the 40th Engineer Mobility Augmentation Co. are currently deployed to Afghanistan. Altogether, about 300 of the battalion's 600 soldiers are currently in Afghanistan.
Wade becomes the third soldier in the battalion's company to die in recent years while on deployment.
A local memorial will be held for Wade, but no details have been planned as of yet.
