The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
Sgt. Matthew H. Stiltz, 26, of Spokane, Wash., died Nov. 12, at Zerok, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with indirect fire. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan.

The Department of Defense confirms that Sergeant Matthew Stiltz, 26, of Spokane, died on Nov. 12 of wound suffered when his unit was attacked by indirect fire.
Stiltz was serving with the 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Ft. Riley, Kan. at the time of his death. His battalion, nicknamed the "Black Lions," deployed to Paktika Province, Afghanistan in early June.
He is the fourth soldier in his unit killed in action since they deployed in June.
Prior to his current deployment he served in Iraq between 2007 and 2008, according to his MySpace profile.
Stiltz, who has been married since 2009, is a 2005 graduate of Shadle Park High School.
