An official from police headquarter, wishing anonymity, said the suicide attack took place at around 9 am 100 metres from the governor's office in the provincial capital.
He told Pajhwok Afghan News that Khost quick reaction force commander, Lt. Col. Mubarak Shah and some American soldiers were killed in the attack.
Public health director, Dr. Amir Badshah Mangal, confirmed receiving three dead and 30 injured to the hospital. He said all of the victims were seen civilians and many injured suffering critical condition.
Doctors at Rahman Baba private hospital said they have received six dead bodies and 15 injured.
Another 16 injured have been evacuated to Matoon Baba private hospital in the province.
